We booked a private tour through our hotel in Santa Cruz to visit San Marcos, San Juan, and Santiago. The tour lasted about seven hours and included boat rides across the lake. Our knowledgeable guide showed us highlights such as a coffee plantation and a weaving demonstration. We did the Indian Nose sunrise hike with Tours Atitlan and it ended up being one of the absolute highlights of our trip. Our guide, Juan Carlos, was outstanding. He was punctual, professional, and local to the Lake Atitlán area, which made the experience feel even more authentic. We did the tour in Spanish since we speak it, but his English was excellent as well. He easily could have conducted the entire experience in English with no issues. The company arranged everything for us, including pickup right at our hotel. Communication was seamless from booking through the morning of the hike, no issues at all. The hike itself takes about 30-40 minutes. It’s mostly uphill but not too intense, and absolutely worth it. We even got to see Volcán de Fuego erupting several times in the distance, which was incredible. I definitely recommend going with a guide; there’s no way we would have found the trail on our own in the dark. Juan Carlos was extremely knowledgeable about the region and its history, and he took the time to explain everything along the way. Isaias, the tour guide, picked us from the hotel in Santa Cruze at 4 a.m. and we made it to the peak right on time for the sunrise at 6:24. We saw several birds, a volcano erupting with lava in the distance and an absolutely spectacular view along the way and on the top. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and make this experience lots of fun. We had a chance to see coffee, weaving, chocolate factory, and a lot of beautiful local shops.
